Half Eagle Gold Coins

The Half eagle gold coin is a United State coin that was produced for passage from 1795 to 1929, and gold bars coins since 1980’s.The half Eagle is composed completely of gold and it has a face value of five dollars.

The five dollar piece was endorsed by the Act of April 2, 1792 but the fineness became .900 by the Act of January 18, 1837.The style of eagles and the number of dates has change a lot over period of time.

The 1822 half eagle considered to be the most vital regular-issue coins.

Turban Head (1795-1807)

The design and composition was formerly calculated by Robert Scott. The observe design or “Turban Head”, engraved a capped likeness of Liberty facing to the right and the back depicted small eagle.

It was produced linking 1795 to 1798.Similarly; a further type was minted that depicted a larger heraldic eagle on the back with “E PLURIBUS UNUM” stamped on it.

Draped Bust (1807-1812)


From 1807 to 1812, a new type of design came into being called “Draped Bust” which is calculated by John Reich, featuring a round-capped Liberty facing left on the obverse and a modified eagle on the back.

In 1813 a modified translation of Draped Bust made its advent removing much of the bust lines and giving Liberty an by and large larger advent.

Classic Head Design (1834-188)

The gold in half eagle had been worth more value than its face value since 1834.By 1834 there was saving in the weight of the gold, it was reduced to 8.36 grams, diameter reduced to 8.36 mm and the composition changed to .8992 gold and .1008 silver and copper.

The back still depicted the modified eagle, but “E PLURIBUS UNUM” was indifferent to characterize further new composition.

Liberty Head Design (1839-1907)

In 1839 the design went owing to a further transaction, the new look was calculated by Christian Gohrecht and it’s known as the “Liberty Head “or “Circlet Head”.

At Philadelphia Mint, there was no sign of silver; its composition was .900 gold and.100 copper. But, gold ore used at southern branch mints of Charlotte and Dahlonega had a high silver content.

Indian Head Design (1908-1916)

In 1908, Bela Lyon Pratt calculated the final type. The composition, weight and diameter remained unchanged, but on the other hand both the back and the obverse were drastically changed. The new design matched the new quarter design.

These two series are unique because of design and inscription. The obverse stamped an Indian head in a feathered headdress and the back depicted a perched eagle with the “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST”.

The $5 denomination is the only denomination for which coins are minted at all eight US mints.

Even if circulating half eagle discontinued in 1929 but half eagle in memory and $5 came into being since twentieth-century.
