The Saint Gaudens $20 gold coins are the most well-known among all US gold coin. The name Saint Gaudens is derived from the name of the designer, Augustus St.

The first coin issued in 1907, featured a date in Roman numerals but this was later changed to Arabic numerals, the design of the St.Gaudens coin was slightly changed once more, when New Mexico and Arizona became states.
Launching of Saint Gaudens
In late 1905, American President Theodore Roosevelt‘s desired for American coins to look as beautiful as the coins of ancient Greek.
Saint Gaudens produced not only the venerable coin but also the beautiful head design. St.Gaudens gold coins created waves until in 1933 President Roosevelt called off.

So, according to his wish all these coins came out without motto. Though his wishes were carried temporarily, therefore none of the 1907 and half of 1908 $20 Saint-Gaudens coins have the motto “In God We Trust”.
But, during 1908, Congress prevailed and the Mint added “In God We Trust” to nearly one ounce of $20 gold coins. From 1908 till end of 1933, all Saint Gaudens gold coins carried the motto “In God We Trust”.
However, 1908 no motto St.Gaudens gold coins priced the same as other Saint Gaudens gold coins with motto.
